Exploring Terrain Cafe

If you’re familiar with the Bethesda area, you would know that Anthropologie and Co. currently occupy the old Barnes and Noble space, but what intrigues me about this Anthropologie and Co. location is that they opened a café inside the store called Terrain Café. I love the novelty of having a cafe inside of a clothing store and knew immediately that I wanted to check out the café, primarily since I work around the area. They also have a mini plant nursery inside the store, which I could browse for hours and adds to the appeal.

Parking and Location: There is several street parking available and parking garages that are affordable and free on Sunday’s. Terrain is located in Bethesda, but the exact location is

Ambiance wise Terrain Café checks all the check-boxes. The restaurant is industrial chic, with a rustic farmhouse feel and resembles a greenhouse with air-plants on every table. There are big windows throughout the restaurant, which provides ample natural light with concrete floors and open terrariums. The owner paid a lot of attention to the details from the weathered iron garden gate that frames the kitchen entrance to the copper pendant lights that are accented with leaves.

I went for an early dinner, and the food did not disappoint. The complimentary bread came in a planter pot, which I thought was cute and they have a Chocolate Terrarium dessert that looks like a terrarium, which pays homage to the theme of the restaurant.I am a big fan of cheese and charcuterie boards, so naturally, when I saw the farmhouse option on the menu, I ordered it as the appetizer( lol it really could have served for the entree).

The farmhouse board was $22, which is a little pricey, but you do get what you pay for. For the entrée, I ordered the Red Snapper, which came with curry broth, potato, fennel, bok choy, savory cashew granola. The snapper was delicious and flavorful while being healthy. My friend got the terrain burger, which was ok as far as burgers go. My friend and I also tried spritzers for the first time. If I weren't already impressed with the food, I would still go back to try the lavender spritzer again, which was refreshing.

Overall I think that Terrain Café is an excellent addition to the Bethesda area and I plan to visit again.I will say that most of the items on the dinner menu were a tad bit pricey, so I would recommend checking them out for brunch for excellent food at a more affordable cost.
